Virginia Lottery: November reported as second highest month for sports betting


(WFXR) – On Thursday, December 30, the Virginia Lottery released its sports betting activity figures for the month of November – the tenth full month of reporting since the launch of legal sports betting in Virginia on January 21.

According to the Virginia Lottery, between November 1 and November 30, Virginians wagered $ 402,621,132. The figure follows the record October since sports betting began in Virginia less than a year ago.

Since its inception, punters in Virginia have wagered a total of over $ 2.7 billion on a wide variety of approved sporting events. During the month of November, bettors in Virginia won a total of $ 354,284,095 for a combined winning percentage of 12.01 percent from operators.

Virginia law imposes a 15% tax on sports betting activities based on the adjusted gross income (AGR) of each licensee, defined as total bets less total winnings and other allowable deductions. Operators reported nearly $ 15 million in free play bonuses and incentives in November.

Of the 15% state tax on AGR sports betting, 97.5% must be deposited into the General State Fund and 2.5% must be deposited into the Administered Problem Gambling Support and Treatment Fund by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health.
