Snaitech Continues To Dominate The Italian Betting Market In August | Finance

Snaitech, owned by Playtech, remained the market leader in sports betting in Italy for the second consecutive month in August, although the broader market again failed to reach the highs reported in the first half of 2021.

According to the latest data provided by Ficom Leisure, online revenue grew 29.1% year-over-year to € 231.8million (£ 198.3million / 247, $ 4 million). It also represented an 11.9% month-over-month improvement, although the monthly total remains far behind the first quarter.

During this period, revenues exceeded 300 million euros, reaching a high of 351.2 million euros in February.

Aside from May, when revenue hit 328.5 million euros, monthly revenue did not hit those highs with August’s total being the second lowest of the year to date, after the 207.2 million euros in July.

The online casino was once again the biggest vertical, with a turnover of 134.2 million euros. PokerStars represents 9.9% of this total, remaining the market leader for casinos ahead of Sisal, with a 9.1% share. Snaitech followed in third, with 7.8%.

As usual, PokerStars has remained far ahead of its competitors in the poker industry, although its tournament market share has remained below 50% since January. That shouldn’t change, with the closest challenger for Sisal tournaments, which accounted for 10.6% of revenue, and 6.6% for the cash game segment.

In sports betting, sales amounted to € 115.0 million for the month of August, breaking down to € 33.6 million for the retail channel and € 81.4 million for online. This is a decrease of 7.9% from August 2020, but an improvement of 17.7% from July of this year, when revenue fell to 97.7 million euros.

Across both channels, Snaitech’s 16.5% market share placed it at the top of the online and retail rankings. It contributed 21.4% of retail betting revenue during the month. It was also Italy’s largest online operator, with a 14.4% market share preventing Bet365 from reclaiming top spot for the second month in a row. The last time the Stoke-based operator wasn’t at the top of the online betting rankings was in May, another time when he was overtaken by Snaitech.
