Michigan Online Poker Revenue Increased; Small hollows in PA, NJ, DE


The turnover figures were maintained with a certain overall consistency in September, online poker shows holding power. Overall revenues declined slightly in regulated states, but overall iGaming is in place.

Online poker revenues in the United States still remain at historic levels since the pandemic. Poker promotions and strong online events continue to help online domains grow.

New Jersey online poker holds up

Garden State online poker operators represented $ 2.4 million in September, according to New Jersey Gambling Law Enforcement Division (NJDGE). It was almost dead, even with the August numbers.

In New Jersey, there are currently three online poker operators:

Partypoker US Network overtook WSOP.com for the state’s top spot in September. Game over $ 1 million of published sales, compared to $ 800,113 for August.

The company held the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open in September which helped increase the numbers.

WSOP.com came in second with $ 804,887. The site continues to run monthly promotions such as the popular WSOP Circuit series of rings.

WSOP.com remains the only operator offering cash shared with Nevada and 888poker in Delaware.

PokerStars held up roughly the same for the month with revenue of $ 665,808.

On the brick and mortar side, currently three live poker rooms are available in Atlantic City including:

  • Borgata
  • Harrahs
  • Tropicana

In October, Borgata launched weekly tournaments for the first time since before the pandemic. This is the first live tournament in New Jersey since the start of the pandemic.

NJ’s online gaming on the rise

In September, global online gaming in the Garden State accounted for $ 122.6 million. This number reflects a 39.9% compared to $ 87.6 million a year ago.

The Borgata / BetMGM brand continues to grow and dominate the market. The operator remains in the lead for the seventh consecutive month.

BetMGM set a new record and cashed in $38.2 million with Gold nugget in second place with $ 31 million. Resorts also continued to climb and came in third with $ 28.3 million.

The total gaming taxes for the month were $ 46 million. Gaming taxes represent 8% of gross taxable income from casinos and 15% of gross income from internet gambling.

PA online poker takes a bit of a beating

The Keystone State saw a small month-over-month decline in online poker in September. Pennsylvania reported revenue of $ 2.9 million, down from $ 3.1 million in August.

The Commonwealth continues to dominate New Jersey in terms of total monthly poker income. PokerStars has remained constant and has occupied the top spot, now $ 1.9 million again for September.

WSOP.com saw a small drop for $ 603,466, up from $ 819,249 in August. BetMGM / Borgata Poker saw slight declines with revenues reaching a total of $ 368,246. Currently, there are three online poker options in Keystone State:

  • PokerStars
  • Partypoker US Network via Borgata Poker and BetMGM skins
  • WSOP.com

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), online gaming globally generated gross revenue of $ 97.8 million in September.

PA continues to show impressive year-over-year growth, as Keystone State reported $ 57 million during the same period in September 2020.

Michigan sets new record

Another record was set in Wolverine State according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB). The state produced $ 102.4 million in online gaming revenue.

This is an increase from the previous record of $ 97.2 million in August. Michigan combines poker and online gaming in the state revenue report and there are two online poker operators:

  • PokerStars
  • BetMGM (part of the partypoker US Network)

BetMGM has seen a further rise and continues to dominate the state in online games gross income with $ 40.5 million. FanDuel rebounded from the past two months and saw a slight increase to $ 15.3 million in September.

Sports betting turnover achieved $ 23.7 million with a handful of $ 354.3 million. Handle increased 84.2% from the previous month.

There are a few major online poker events happening in the state. BetMGM in Michigan continues to offer monthly promotions with another Online series current in October.

PokerStars also manages the Michigan Classic October 24 with $ 250,000 in guarantees.

Online game operators delivered $ 19.3 million via tax revenue to the State including:

  • Internet gaming taxes and payments – $ 18.9 million
  • Internet sports betting taxes and payments – $ 426,873

Michigan Live Poker Rooms Open

Delaware poker down

The first state saw a month-over-month decline compared to August. In September, the state reported total income of $ 27,134.

According to the Delaware Lottery, iGaming in general has reported $ 794,644. On a positive note, for the third consecutive month Delaware had its biggest month this year for new player registrations with 973.
