Italy stems tide of year-over-year declines in igaming’s GGR – Finance

Italian igaming revenue rose year-over-year in April for the first time since November 2021. However, that figure was down month-over-month.

Revenue from the Italian igaming market fell slightly month-on-month, to €292.2 million in April from €302.4 million in March. This means that revenues increased year-on-year for the first time in six months, after revenues reached 288.1 million euros in April 2021.

This drop is mainly due to a 6.7% drop in online sports betting, with revenues now standing at €118.9 million: their lowest level since October 2021. However, this remains above the €103.6 million recorded in April 2021.

Although online casino revenues have remained stable, there have been some interesting moves among market operators.

GGR’s four largest online casino operators all lost ground to their competitors, with Sisal and Snai being the hardest hit as they fell to 8.5% and 8.3% market share respectively, while Pokerstars’ share fell to 8.8% and Lottomatica to 7.3%.

On the other hand, on the online sports betting side, Sisal and Snai have increased their market shares compared to the rest of the pack. This growth in online betting has also translated into an increase in both companies’ share of the overall sports betting market, which is comprised of both online and retail betting.

By increasing its market share to 15.6%, Snai regained the top spot in these rankings after losing it to Goldbet in February 2022. In April, Goldbet trailed just behind Snai with 15.5%.

The market shares of poker tournaments and cash games remain relatively stable. Pokerstars continues to sit at the top with a 48.75% market share in tournaments. It fell from 51.28% in April 2021, continuing the trend of year-over-year declines we have seen in Pokerstars market share each month in 2022.

In poker cash games, Pokerstars has steadily climbed towards its peak market share of 46.0% reached in September 2021. E-Play 24 was the big winner this month for poker games. silver, climbing impressively from a market share of 7.6%. to 9.6% in just one month.
