Five bets to watch this week

We’re on the straight line now. So many seasons remain in play as we continue to hunt down the lines that will bring you a smile on Sunday …

(2021 WLD predictions: 41-38-1 51%

Week 17 of the NFL season has arrived

Rams (-3.5) @ Ravens – 6:00 p.m.

Rams were up to 25 on their reserve / Covid list on the 17the December.

Luckily for them, that number is expected to drop by Sunday and I love how they look against a Ravens team who are suffering from a beating from the Bengals.

There is no guarantee Lamar Jackson will return from injury and while Josh Johnson is a reasonable substitute he could well be battling a Rams defense that has forced 42 sacks this season; Sixth over in the league.

The Rams will be looking to secure their playoff standings and they do so here with a win by a score.

Prediction: Rams 30 Ravens 23 (Rams -3.5)

Giants @ Bear (-6) – 6:00 p.m.

Congratulations Giants, you have now made my “Never underestimate how bad this team is when you bet on their games” list.

Talk about a team in the tank, it’s now four straight losses by one or more scoring, and five of the last six games.

The Bears will be leaving Matt Nagy soon, but they seem to have enough pride to keep playing for the win.

They also have a top-five defense in terms of passing yards allowed per game, total passing yards allowed and sacks.

With Daniel Jones finished for the year, Jake Fromm or Mike Glennon (or both) will face the music at Soldier Field. Ouch. Take the Bears to cover in a low scoring game.

Prediction: Giants 6 Bears 17 (Ours -6)

Boucaniers (-13) @ Jets – 6:00 p.m.

If the Bucs had all of their starters, that line would be covered at halftime.

As it stands it seems a bit high but I still have confidence in the defending champions.

Players who were on the sidelines / who weren’t getting a lot of big plays stepped up against the Panthers.

We saw Cyril Grayson and Ke’Shawn Vaughn shine, which is sure to please Tom Brady.

Even without HC Bruce Arians, Shaq Barrett or Lavonte David, I still expect the Bucs’ defense to make Zach Wilson’s life a mess.

I also expect to see defensive coordinator Todd Bowles add another great game plan to his resume and show why the Raiders and Jags would be interested in bringing him into their franchises as a head coach.

Take cover, as cannons are repeatedly fired at Metlife.

Prediction: Buccaneers 28 Jets 10 (Buccaneers -13)

Texans @ 49ers (-12.5) – 21:05

There is always a big gap per week that is not covered and Texans fans this week I am giving love to your team!

I said weeks ago in this column that Davis Mills was nowhere near good enough to play in the NFL.

I apologize. He’s showing more right now than pretty much any other QB rookie (with the possible exception of Mac Jones) and helped form a pretty unstoppable offense against the Chargers.

The Niners woke up and started scoring a lot.

I’m not saying they lose but I don’t see a breakout either, provided the Texans keep up their offensive play from last week. It just might be a fun game.

Prediction: Texans 24 49ers 31 (Texans +12.5)

Cardinals @ Cowboys (-5.5) – 21:25

The wheels have fallen for the Cardinals and now they have to hit the road, take on a rolling Cowboys team, and have just scored 56 points against a divisional rival. Good luck…

The Cowboys are five INTs more than any other team, which isn’t good news for Kyler Murray, who has pitched five picks in the last five games.

If they lose the sales battle, I think that’s curtains for them. All the momentum is with Dallas, and other than that freak result against Denver, they’ve been compelling in their own stadium. This is my bet of the week.

Prediction: Cardinals 20 Cowboys 31 (Cowboys -5.5)

Acca:

Rams -3.5
Bear -6
Buccaneers -13
Texans +12.5
Cowboys -5.5
