DraftKings Ontario launches sports betting and scraps DFS contests
It’s official, online gambling has arrived in Ontario, bringing with it a cavalcade of big-name sports betting and casino launches. Chief among these big names is DraftKings, a famous sports betting brand with a massive market share in various legal markets. Finally, DraftKings Ontario is now available for punters to register to bet on.
Earlier this week, DraftKings Ontario received its license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This comes six weeks after the commercial market opened in the province. Just days after receiving the license, a commercial agreement was reached with iGaming Ontario (iGO). While those in Ontario will appreciate the launch of online sports betting, the operator has unfortunately removed DFS contests from the region.
Why we recommend DraftKings Ontario
DraftKings Sportsbook is not only one of the most popular sports betting apps, but it is also one of the highest quality options available on the market. There’s a lot to like with the platform, as it’s very stable to play with small glitches. Many incentives will bring players back, including a loyalty program and “Missions” tailored to specific players.
Its design is formatted differently for a smooth experience on a traditional website or mobile app. It’s easy to find what to specifically bet on, and there are different formats to view them. Players can dive deep into all the available markets for a specific game, or search for a particular prop and place a wager bet.
Overall, DraftKings arguably offers the best online gaming experience in the industry. It would be even better with daily fantasy sports. However, DraftKings scrapped those contests on Monday after receiving clearance from the AGCO. To learn more about why DraftKings and FanDuel have stopped DFS contests, click here.
A word on the launch of DraftKings Ontario
It should be noted that many Ontarians find it difficult to get started with DraftKings Sportsbook. Customers share online issues such as geolocation errors despite being in the province, money is deposited for DFS instead of sports betting activity, users with established DFS accounts only receive no signup offers and difficulties when it comes to downloading mobile apps.
Here are some tips that might help you. First, make sure location settings are enabled for the browser you’re using or mobile device. Wired internet connections tend to have frequent location issues, so we recommend using Wi-Fi when possible.
Also make sure that the money deposited goes to sports betting and not daily fantasy sports. This should be clearly indicated at the top of the page where the deposit takes place. While it would be helpful for DK to lock down DFS repositories in Ontario, it’s something easy to note.
Of course, some technical issues are beyond the customer’s control. Luckily, we’ve had great success with DraftKings customer service. They’re probably experiencing high volume right now, but if you’re having trouble, it’s worth contacting them and being patient as things move forward.
Now that DraftKings Sportsbook is now available in Ontario, here are some key things to keep in mind as you sign up and look to claim your new player incentives.
1. Know the registration conditions
Be prepared to disclose personal information when registering for an account with DraftKings sportsbook Ontario. The process will feel simple and familiar if you’ve ever signed up for an online shopping or bank account. You will need to provide your name, date of birth, phone number, email address, home address, and government-issued photo ID to confirm that you are who you say you are. This information confirms your age and identity while preventing you from creating multiple accounts with the same bookmaker.
When you sign up, keep an eye out for the new player incentive details. You may need to register before you can claim it.
2. Read the terms and conditions
New user rewards always come with fine print. Be sure to read it. If you receive site credits as part of a welcome incentive, you may need to redeem them within a certain time frame, lest they expire. Simply put, check the terms of any new player rewards to make sure you get the full effect.
